Corene Fry was born in California and raised and schooled most
of her life in England. From a very early age she had a keen interest in
birds and was always rescuing injured wild birds that had fallen from
their nests. "I remember it was always budgies, and canaries and the
latest hurt wild critter in my bedroom. I never really understood the
bunny or gerbil 'thing' my other friends were into, it was only birds for
me."
Later in life, still tagged with the "Bird Lady" label, she
brought home Baby, her first big bird, a Triton Cockatoo, who is still her
companion today. "He really is the catalyst for the work I do with birds
today. For the last 10 years he has been my tutor, my study and my
inspiration."
After moving back to the USA, Corene worked as an
animal trainer at Universal Studios' Animal Planet Live show in Orlando.
She gained a wealth of experience training and working with a wide range
of animals, from show performance dogs and pigs to chimpanzees, but
"feather power" once again drew her towards working primarily with the
trick parrots and the show's pigeons.
The Animal Planet Live show
gave Corene a great insight into the many aspects of animal behavior and
training, but her passion to improve parrot welfare by educating people
about the complexities of parrot ownership has become her main
focus.
Corene has used her instinctual gifts with parrots to work
with many pet bird owners to resolve problems of biting, feather picking
and screaming birds, and has saved many birds from being "out of a home"
and even
euthanized.
